Intercollegiate Quidditch Association

About the Club and FAQs

We are Intercollegiate Quidditch at the University of Washington, a registered student organization. IQUW was founded by Alicia Radford in spring 2008 after she watched CBS’s coverage of Middlebury Quidditch over spring break. During that first quarter IQUW developed a small but loyal following, and in fall 2008 UW sent a team to the second annual Quidditch World Cup in Middlebury, Vermont. We eagerly anticipate sending a team again this year.

Quidditch at UW is made up of two fundamental parts: weekly scrimmages and the UW league.

Once a week, usually on Saturday afternoons, we host Quidditch scrimmages. Teams are picked randomly and we swap out as often as necessary to ensure everyone has a fair amount of playing time. The scrimmages are laid back and a great way to have fun and learn more about the game.

We also have a UW league. The league is comprised of our registered Quidditch teams - and anyone can form one! Throughout the year these teams will compete against each other, culminating in a tournament at the end of the year. The winning team will take home the UW Quidditch Cup. For more information on forming a team, see below in the FAQs or check out the “UW League” page.

We play by the IQA rules, a summary of which can be found on the little tab up there called “Rulebook.”

How do I join?

Anyone can become a member of IQUW by providing us with a name and email address; however, only regularly enrolled UW undergraduate and graduate students will be allowed to hold office and vote for officers.

Does it cost anything?

There is absolutely no cost for attending our scrimmages; however, any IQUW member who is part of a registered Quidditch team will have to pay a $10 team fee to help pay for team costs (equipment, space, food, etc).

Where do I find you guys?

We generally practice every Saturday from 1-3 PM on the UW campus; come and play with us! We provide all the equipment.

I’m interested in becoming an officer.

Awesome! Check out the tab “Jobs” to see if we currently have any openings. You can also always talk to one of the current officers in person. And if you’re interested in helping out, even if no officer positions are available, there are always jobs to do! If UW has a tournament coming up, we will likely need extra help organizing it. Or if you have any cool ideas, let us know. Bottom line, we’re always happy to accept help!
